Is reliability one of the things you want most out of your next used car? If you’d like a vehicle that won’t have lots of costly mechanical problems, J.D. Power’s Dependability Study winners are a good choice for you. The best part is that award winners are selected based on surveys taken by actual vehicle owners, who document how many or how few problems they’ve had with their cars.
In this year’s Dependability Study, which assessed three-year-old (or 2012-model-year) vehicles, owners said the 2012 Toyota Corolla (compact car), Scion xB (compact multi-purpose vehicle), Scion tC (compact sporty car) and Scion xD (small car) were the most reliable vehicles in their respective segments.
Owners were asked to report any problems they’ve experienced with their vehicles and the surveys they took were pretty comprehensive. J.D. Power’s Dependability Study included eight categories that are important to vehicle shoppers and owners: exterior, engine/transmission, interior, seats, features/controls/displays, audio/infotainment/navigation, heating/AC/ventilation and the driving experience.
These categories were then broken down into 177 specific issues. Questions about technology were especially emphasized this year, as many late-model-year vehicles include more tech features than past car models. Vehicles with the lowest number of problems in their segments were crowned winners and we’re happy to say that you can find several of the study’s honorees at Crown Toyota Scion!
