With the weather finally starting to warm up here in the Decatur area, now is the perfect time to start planning weekend trips with family and friends. One place that is a must-see attraction in our lovely city is the Scovill Zoo.
Nestled along the shores of beautiful Lake Decatur, more than 400 animals live at the Scovill Zoo. Here, you’ll see cheetahs, camels, meerkats, flamingos, zebras, penguins and several other wild animals, who have helped make the zoo one of the most popular attractions in Decatur. In fact, nearly 100,000 visitors come here each year.

Aside from viewing and learning about the hundreds of animals, guests will also have the opportunity to enjoy the Endangered Species Carousel, Z.O. & O. Express Train, and Project Playground. In addition, educational programs are offered throughout the year, with mobile zoos, winter classroom programs and summer camps.
We all know that conservation is key to maintaining our natural environment. That’s why the Scovill Zoo has developed several programs over the years to help guests take part in global conservation efforts. Zoo visitors can help rainforests by feeding the Conservation Parking Meter, which helps fund efforts to save the Rincon Rainforest in Costa Rica. It’s just one of many ways that the Scovill Zoo is working to help protect our environment for generations to come.
