What's New For the 2021 Toyota Highlander?
Although the features and options for the existing trims remain wholly the same in 2021 as they were in 2020, the Toyota Highlander adds a new trim to its lineup to give drivers even more options for their next Highlander. The 2021 Highlander adds a sixth trim level this year called the XSE. With this new midlevel trim comes a sportier exterior, a different suspension system, and some interior enhancements, including navigation. The Toyota Highlander otherwise has the same five trim levels as 2020, and they are equipped with the same amenities. The 2021 Toyota Highlander Hybrid is primarily the same vehicle on the market in 2020, with a hybrid powertrain distinguishing it from the regular Highlander and four distinct trim levels.
2021 Highlander Has Abundant Features
The 2021 Toyota Highlander family includes six trim levels, while there are four trims available for the 2021 Toyota Highlander Hybrid. The first trim in the Highlander family, called the L, gets an eight-inch touchscreen with a package that includes Android Auto, Amazon Alexa, and Apple CarPlay. The base hybrid trim called the LE shares this same technology package. Both base trims also have three-zone climate control and a Wi-Fi hotspot.
The Highlander trim called the XLE, upgrades to captain's chairs to seat seven. It adds a wireless charging pad and heated seats in front, along with a more prominent driver's information display screen, a power moonroof and roof rails. The Hybrid XLE is also equipped with these features. The new XSE trim in the Highlander has navigation and interior ambient lighting. Its exterior includes sporty accents. The Limited trim has leather seats that are heated and ventilated in both Toyota models. The Platinum includes a larger touchscreen, heated second-row seats, and a panoramic sunroof.

What's Under the Hood of the Toyota Highlander?
The 2021 Toyota Highlander trims share the same engine, a V6 capable of churning out about 295 HP. Its maximum torque output is 263 LB-FT. All trims get an eight-speed transmission and front-wheel drive with optional all-wheel drive. The hybrid's system generates 243 HP with a combined engine and electric motor. The hybrid also offers front-wheel and all-wheel drive.
Technologies To Keep You Safe
Forward-collision mitigation, adaptive cruise control, and lane trace assist are standard Highlander safety features. The regular Highlander also gets traffic sign recognition, while parking sensors are available on the higher-end trims.
