On Saturday, Aug. 23, 2014, Friend's Creek Conservation Area is holding Carrollton's 30th Annual Astronomy Jamboree. It'll be an evening of family fun under the stars, featuring an astronomy program, storytelling by the campfire, kids' make-and-take crafts, and stargazing.
Free hot chocolate and marshmallows will be provided to all who attend. You may also bring your own picnic dinner and enjoy a meal at the Creek's 526-acre prairie before the jamboree begins at 7 p.m. In addition, for those of you who love to camp out, reservations are being accepted for overnight stays following the event - just don't forget your tent!
The Astronomy Jamboree is a unique family friendly occasion that gives parents and kids an opportunity to explore the constellations (and maybe even see some meteors!), roast marshmallows over an open fire and enjoy other fun activities in the company of their neighbors. If you would like to attend, make sure to dress for the weather. It's also suggested that participants bring along bug spray.
