Kelley Blue Book's experts have been busy examining nearly every new vehicle model available in the nation for their first-ever "Best Buy" awards. Along with general assessment categories, like fuel efficiency, user friendliness and performance, KBB.com's judges also took vehicle pricing, consumer reviews and 5-Year Cost to Own data into account when selecting their winners.
Regarding the 2015 Highlander's win in the midsize SUV class, judges said, "In a segment filled with excellent alternatives, Toyota's well-crafted, well-styled and well-sorted Highlander simply does the best job of seamlessly mixing and matching the things that count most into a single, extremely engaging package we deem the standard bearer for its class."
Specific features that stood out to judges included the Highlander's easily configurable 60/40-split second- and third-row seats, which can fold flat to increase cargo space. KBB.com's experts also called Highlander a confident performer with 270 horses under the hood and the ability to tow up to 5,000 pounds. In addition, judges said the SUV is smart and safe with excellent crash test scores and several built-in features for passenger protection, as well as available technologies like Lane-Departure Alert with automatic high-beam adjustment.
