Stay safe and comfortable on the road this season using our winter driving checklist. As temperatures drop and occurrences of rain, snow, frost and ice start to increase, make sure you adhere to all the items included on this checklist to ensure that you’re ready for Old Man Winter.
Car parts and liquids that should be prepped as winter approaches:
- Waxing your car is a must to protect the paint from corrosive road salt and moisture
- Keep your gas tank at least above half full over winter, which will keep moisture from building up and corroding the metal in the tank
- Top off or replace antifreeze/coolant to protect your car’s engine from damage
- Top off windshield wiper fluid, which is typically used much more often over winter
- Don’t skip your oil change
- Check that lights are working properly
- Regularly check tire inflation throughout the season
- Rotate, align and replace tires as needed
- Check battery for power and corrosion
- Ensure wiper blades are functioning
- Ensure belts and hoses are in good condition; cold can make them more brittle and prone to snap
