A decade’s old tradition, the Lights of Christmas Parade will once again kick off the holiday season with a luminous celebration, featuring decorative floats, bands, local businesses, lots of twinkling lights all around and, of course, an appearance from Jolly Old Saint Nicolas himself!
One of the most popular events taking place in Decatur this fall, the parade is expected to draw a huge crowd, just like it did last year. The event is scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 21, 2015, and will take place from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. on Merchant Street in Downtown Decatur. This year’s parade theme is “Christmas Thru the Years,” so you can expect a great assortment of classic and modern floats and entertainment that celebrate the present and past.
In conjunction with the parade, Santa’s House will be open at Central Park and your kids won’t want to miss the chance to meet the magical Kris Kringle. Also celebrating the holiday season, the Decatur Club will be holding a Symphony Holiday Gala from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m., plus there will be free Holiday Art Make & Take events for kids and parents from 8 p.m. to 11 p.m. at the Decatur Area Arts Council, which is located on 125 N. Water St.
There’s going to be a burst of holiday spirit in Decatur in the coming weeks. Mark your calendars and don’t miss out on the fun! See all holiday events happening near Merchant Street here. For additional details about the parade and its associated events, please call (217) 428 - 9950.
