The midsize sedan segment wouldn’t be quite the same without the presence of the Toyota Avalon. This statement is even more accurate this year due to several enhancements that have been made to the lineup, including new frontal styling updates, a choice of two suspensions and the debut of a new XLE Plus grade (gas and hybrid models).
While the five-passenger sedan returns with new turn signals and a new front grille for all models, the Avalon Touring was paid extra attention to. Touring grades get their own unique grille and new LED lights for a custom look that’s separated from other trims in the lineup. Touring models also get their own sporty suspension tuning, which offers an enhanced driving experience accentuated by greater responsiveness and dynamism. Other trims get a separate high-quality suspension that emphasizes ride comfort.
The all-new XLE Plus grade is another model to pay attention to in the 2016 Avalon lineup. It’s now the trim just above the base gas model and it’s become the entry-level model for hybrids. The XLE Plus comes with premium features at a surprisingly low cost, including a standard Entune Audio Plus system with a 7-inch display and get-you-anywhere Scout GPS Navigation. In addition, it gets the XLE’s rearview camera, USB/iPod interface, Bluetooth, satellite radio, keyless entry/ignition and heated mirrors.
Notable safety technologies like frontal collision warning and blind spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert carryover from last year. In addition, new shoppers can now look forward to even more security on the road with the debut of an optional Safety Sense-P system that includes: Lane Departure Alert with Steering Assist, a Pre-Collision System with Pedestrian Detection, Dynamic Radar Cruise Control and Automatic High Beam Headlights.
