Image: Cirba Solutions Helps Toyota Expand Battery Recycling Network

Toyota is deeply committed to safeguarding the environment's health, extending its efforts well beyond the focus on electrifying its vehicle lineup. Improper disposal of automotive batteries can significantly harm the environment. Sadly, numerous batteries often end up in landfills, contributing to the escalating pollution crisis. Moreover, the materials within these discarded batteries could be reclaimed and repurposed. To address this, Toyota has forged a new alliance with Cirba Solutions to expand its battery recycling network. With over 60 years of expertise in battery recycling, Cirba Solutions offers comprehensive services encompassing the collection, transportation, and extraction of crucial elements.

This collaboration between Toyota Motor North America and Cirba Solutions aims to broaden the automaker’s recycling network, covering BEVs, PHEVs, and HEVs. Cirba Solutions boasts an impressive 95% recovery rate for extracting critical elements. By partnering with Cirba Solutions, Toyota not only reduces its costs but also advances toward its goal of a closed-loop system for battery recycling. Notably, Cirba Solutions recently received a substantial grant from the U.S. Department of Energy, enhancing its facility in Lancaster, Ohio. This upgraded facility will extract battery-grade materials from end-of-life batteries, reintroducing them into the supply chain for future EV use.
