This summer, Toyota announced an investment in the EV charging network IONNA to help establish a high-powered charging infrastructure for battery electric vehicles across North America. Toyota joins six other automobile manufacturers in supporting IONNA, aiming to enhance the accessibility of charging stations for electric vehicle owners.
The plan is for IONNA to deploy at least 30,000 charging ports across North America by 2030. These stations will feature connectors for both NACS and CCS to accommodate all BEVs. The first wave of DC fast-charging stations will be installed this year, with additional stations rolling out nationwide.
This initiative underscores Toyota's commitment to BEVs. Currently, Toyota offers two BEVs: the Toyota bZ4X and the Lexus RZ. The company is also preparing to introduce two three-row BEV SUVs soon and plans to expand its lineup to 30 BEV models across its Toyota and Lexus brands by 2030.
Toyota joins other major automakersāBMW, GM, Honda, Hyundai, Kia, Mercedes-Benz, and Stellantisāin supporting IONNA. With such strong backing and efforts to improve EV charging accessibility, the popularity of electric vehicles is expected to rise.
