Specs at a Glance
The 2020 Toyota Camry TRD is the first time the Toyota Racing Development team has touched the venerable Camry, despite the fact that the sedan has been in production for decades now. The Camry TRD is also expected to be the most affordable way to get the V6. It essentially upgrades the Camry XSE in sporty handling and style for less. The XSE was fully redesigned in 2018 and is available in both V6 and four-cylinder versions. The XSE gave the Camry its sportiest package with red leather interior and two powerful engines. The four-cylinder gets 206 horsepower while the V6 gets 301, which far outshines any competing sedan with a turbocharged four-cylinder.
Power & Performance
The Camry TRD keeps the 301 horsepower V6 engine, but it will add track-inspired performance through several upgrades. These upgrades include a dual exhaust system, fine-tuned shock absorbers, 19-inch matte black wheels and an aerodynamic body kit among others. The front grille features a sport mesh design in black gloss. The XSE has this same V6 engine, but it also offers a four-cylinder choice that is no slouch either. For those who want a more fuel-efficient option but also with sporty handling, then the XSE may be the better choice. The TRD maxes out the performance capability of the Camry and is definitely for those who want the practicality of a roomy four-door sedan but with some serious pep and racing-inspired handling.
Highly Impressive Appearance
The Camry XSE gives the four-door sedan an aggressive, sporty look with sharp lines down the hood and an edgy grille. The rest of the car comes off the same way. Inside, you'll find striking red leather upholstery and black accents. The control center has the same modern and stylish appeal with bright touchscreens and big controls. The TRD is expected to offer a similar exterior, but with technology and creature comforts more on par with the base LE trim. For example, the TRD will feature synthetic leather upholstery vs. the XSE's real leather. In other words, the XSE definitely has the more overall luxury package, while the TRD gives you the opportunity to get the V6 for less as well as a sports car-style ride.
Amazing Features
The TRD's main features are firmly aimed at its racing design. The coil springs are stiffer and lower the car by roughly half an inch to give it more stance. Specialized shocks and sway bars make the ride stiffer while the brakes on the front wheels are beefier to aid stopping power. On the other hand, the XSE offers more tech and safety with embedded navigation and the tech and safety-packed Driver Assist Package. To sum up, if you want performance, then the TRD is the car for you. If you want comfort and strong safety features, then the XSE is probably your best choice.
