Car Not Accelerating

Ā

If your vehicle isn't accelerating adequately, you might be wondering what the problem is and how to fix it. Fortunately, our dealership can help. Acceleration problems can stem from a variety of reasons. You may find that your car suddenly doesn't accelerate like it used to, and the problem gradually worsens over time, or acceleration problems might come and go at first. Either way, you'll want a professional mechanic to check out your car to see what the problem might be. While there are various reasons for acceleration problems, here are some of the most common that you may be experiencing.

Dirty Oxygen Sensor or Mass Air Flow Sensor

The engine in your vehicle has a few sensors that aid in its proper performance. Two sensors connected to the engine are the oxygen sensor and the mass airflow sensor. The oxygen sensor normally ensures that the vehicle's engine has enough oxygen to run. The oxygen sensor can adjust the amount of oxygen based on oxygen levels in the engine. Another sensor in the engine is the mass airflow sensor. The mass airflow sensor works with the oxygen sensor to ensure that the engine has adequate volumes of air to create a proper fuel mixture.

Malfunctioning Throttle Position Sensor

The throttle position sensor is another component located in the engine and typically helps with the car's performance. The throttle position sensor helps check the throttle opening valve's angle. By checking the valve's opening angle, the throttle position sensor ensures that the engine gets the supply of fuel that it needs to operate. When the throttle position sensor stops working properly, the engine may not get the right amount of fuel, compromising its performance capabilities.

Clogged Fuel Filter

A clogged fuel filter is another problem that can cause mechanical system issues. The fuel filter is a small filtration device that typically works to keep debris out of the engine. Like other filters in the car, the fuel filter can get dirty and ultimately stop working correctly. The fuel filter should be cleaned periodically so that it does not get covered in dirt and dust. The fuel filter may need to be replaced if it gets too dirty.

Dirty Air Filter

The air filter generally catches airborne particles before they enter the engine. The air filter can also stop working correctly if the surface gets too dirty. The air filter should be changed based on the owner's manual in your car.
